1TH 5:1-11

The Day of the Lord

1Now concerning the chronological times and the appointed seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. [5:2] For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord comes just as a thief in the night. [5:3] When they are saying 'Peace and safety,' then sudden destruction comes upon them like birth pains on a woman with child — and they will not escape. [5:4] But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, so that the day would overtake you like a thief. [5:5] For you are all sons of light and sons of day — we are not of night nor of darkness. [5:6] So then let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. [5:7] For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, are drunk at night. [5:8] But we, being of day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. [5:9] For God did not appoint us to wrath but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, [5:10] who died on our behalf so that, whether we are alert or sleeping, we might live together with him. [5:11] Therefore build up one another, just as also you are doing.
