And having come to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes disputing with them.
And immediately the whole crowd, on seeing him, were utterly astonished, and running up they greeted him.
And he asked them: "What are you disputing with them?"
And one out of the crowd answered him: "Teacher, I brought my son to you, having a mute spirit.
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes withered. And I told your disciples that they should cast it out, and they were not able."
But answering them he says: "O faithless generation, until when will I be with you? Until when will I bear with you? Bring him to me."
And they brought him to him. And seeing him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and falling on the ground he was rolling about, foaming.
And he asked his father: "How long is it since this has been happening to him?" And he said: "From childhood.
And often it has thrown him both into fire and into waters, that it might destroy him. But if you are able anything, help us, having had compassion on us."
But Jesus said to him: "'If you are able' — all things are possible to the one believing."
Immediately, having cried out, the father of the child was saying: "I believe; help my unbelief!"
And Jesus, seeing that a crowd was running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and no longer enter into him."
And having cried out and convulsed him much, it came out; and he became as a corpse, so that the many were saying that he had died.
But Jesus, taking hold of his hand, raised him up, and he stood.
And when he had entered into a house, his disciples were asking him privately: "That we were not able to cast it out?"
And he said to them: "This kind by nothing can come out, except by prayer."
